Shower Wall Preparation: Getting the Details Right Before Tile
The tile gets the attention, but the work underneath deserves a closer look.
For this project, I prepared the shower walls, recessed niches, and curb with mortar ahead of tile installation. It’s a hands-on stage of a bathroom renovation where careful preparation makes a difference to the work that follows.
Getting the Details Right
My work focused on shaping and smoothing the mortar surfaces, paying particular attention to the corners, niche edges, and transitions around the curb. These smaller areas take just as much care as the larger wall surfaces.
The niches were an important part of the project. They’ll become useful storage inside the shower, so I took time with their shape and edges as part of the preparation.
A Look Behind the Finished Surface
The photos follow the shower preparation through to the completed mortar work. This is the stage most people never see once a bathroom is finished, and I enjoy showing the care that goes into it.
My part of this project was the mortar preparation. Another professional will handle the tile installation.
No Detail Too Small
Whether I’m preparing a shower wall or taking care of a small repair, my approach is the same: pay attention, take care with the details, and respect the home I’m working in.
Have a bathroom project in mind? Send me a few photos and a short description of what you need. I’d be happy to discuss how I can help—and perhaps your project will be the next story shared here.
